Another tragic Greek live story is Orpheus and Eurydice. Eurydice was a wood nymph who fell in love with the bard Orpheus. In one of the original telling of the story, on their wedding day when Eurydice was the most beautiful she would ever be, a serpent bit her on the ankle and she died just after being wed. Stricken with grief, Orpheus vowed to rescue her soul from the underworld and reverse fate. Through many troubles and trials he found the soul of his lover. But there was one trial left. Hades told Orpheus that he may retire Eurydice’s soul to the above world, but on their way back he could not glance behind to see if she was following. He had to trust she walked behind him. At the end of the journey, doubt are away at Orpheus and he gave in to Hades’s mind game. He turned around. Eurydice locked eyes with Orpheus one last time and forgave him before her soul was whisked back to hell.
